Abstract
The estrogenic activity of Genistein (4[image], 5, 7 trihydroxyisoflavone) was detd. by mouse bioassay using uterine wt. as the measuring criteria. Genistein was found to be 4.44 x 10-6 times as potent as diethylstilbestrol. The Genistein used in this bioassay had a melting point of 291-294[degree] C and a specific absorption coefficient of 133 at 2625 A. Soybean meal fed orally was also estrogenically active, whereas meal from which Genistein had been extracted showed no activity. Keywords
