Abstract
A possible explanation for the successful prediction of the 1975 Haicheng earthquake is that the earthquake was triggered by a deformation front that propagated 1,000 km through NE China at a velocity of about 110 km yr(-1). The various phenomena that were used to predict the earthquake can be explained by the deformation front. Keywords
