A method useful in tracing vascular bundles of herbaceous plants and the water-conducting system of woody plants is presented. Cut ends of living plants are immersed in a slightly alkaline aqueous solution of the dye. When the dye has appeared in the parts desired, examination may be made by sectioning, etc. Permanent mounts may be prepared.
