Abstract
The design and performance characteristics of a compact TEA CO2 laser operating a PRFS<or=160 Hz are described. Under optimised multimode conditions average powers of up to 20 W have been obtained from this device, which has a gain length of 0.115 m. Single mode operation using short (<or=0.25 m) length-tuned two and three mirror cavities has been investigated and line tuned operation on 52 transitions obtained.
