Haptoglobin and Transferrin Types in Southern Brazilian Indians

Abstract
Starch gel electrophoresis of haptoglobins has been carried out for 429 Caingang Indians from the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. These included 326 putative "full bloods". The Hp1 gene frequency was 0.724[plus or minus]0.018 for the total sample and 0.731[plus or minus]0.019 among the individuals without signs of White or Negro admixture. Results concerning the transferrin types of 162 of the individuals studied are also reported. Tf C was present in all but 2 of them; these presented Tf BC.
