CO2 utilization during the dissimilation of glycerol by the propionic acid bacteria

Abstract
The report of Wood and Werkman that CO2 is utilized during glycerol fermentation by Propionibacterium species in the presence of CaCO3 was confirmed. From 9 to 25 molecules of CO2 are utilized per 100 molecules of fermented glycerol. Approx. one molecule of succinic acid is produced per molecule of CO2 utilized.
