Abstract
An investigation of the synthesis by the flux method and the characterization of for cathode ray tube application is presented. In order to obtain an excellent europium distribution inside the matrix, an yttrium‐europium coprecipitated oxide has been used as the raw material. The optimization of firing conditions has been studied. After firing a mixture of , , and (as a flux) at 1250°C for 2 h, was obtained without any as a second phase. The mean particle size is around 6 μm and the cathodoluminescent properties are equivalent to those of the best commercial yttrium oxysulfide.
