Abstract
Soils with 17 different cropping histories in Australia and overseas were tested in a pot bioassay for suppression of take-all. Of the 10 that were partially or fully suppressive, only two were from under continuous wheat. The most suppressive soils were from under pasture, although not all pasture soils were suppressive. Most natural or fumigated soils without take-all inoculum but planted to wheat were non-suppressive. However, where live inoculum of Gaeumannomyces granzinis (Sacc.) Arx & Olivier var. tritici Walker either as oat grain inoculum or as mycelium was added to fumigated soil, with or without wheat plants, suppression was induced.
