Abstract
In this paper the electro‐optical theory of valence is reanalyzed and its advantages are described with respect to other methods developed for the study of the absorption intensities in the infrared spectra. A particular attention is paid to the transferability of electro‐optical parameters to other molecules (isotopic derivatives or chemically similar molecules). Keywords
