Abstract
In this paper we consider a nonlinear filter whose output is given by a linear combination of the order statistics of the input sequence. Assuming a constant signal in white background noise, the coefficients in the linear combination are chosen to minimize the output MSE for several noise distributions. This new general filter is superior to the well-known median filter, since the median is just a special case. Keywords
