Filariasis in gambia and casamance, West Africa

Abstract

Both Wuchereria bancrofti and Acanthocheilonema perstans are present in West Africa; the former being more common in natives of villages along or close to the coast, while the latter is more prevalent among the inhabitants of inland locations. In each case men are more often infected than women because of their greater exposure to mosquito bites.
