The Genetic View-Point

Abstract
The establishing of fruitful viewpoints, not the amassing of facts, is the goal of advanced research. The genetic viewpoint is the most important biological contribution of the 19th and 20th centuries. Genetics would show the fallacy of the assumption that all men are equal, and emphasize the value of the exceptional individual in man as well as in economic plants and animals. It would help evaluate the relative influence of heredity and environment, direct attention to genetic causes of biological phenomena, and do away with many beliefs regarding inheritance of acquired characters. For biologists, it would teach the value of biological controls. A blending of viewpoints in cooperative investigations is suggested, and for the oncoming generation we can strive to strengthen genetic education.
