Low-EnergyπMesons in the Cosmic Radiation

Abstract

The intensity of $\pi$ mesons in the atmosphere is investigated in the energy region $E_{\mathrm{kin}}\lesssim 50$ Mev at sea level and at mountain altitudes. Positive $\pi$ mesons coming to rest in an absorber-scintillator are identified by the characteristic $\pi -\mu$ decay. They are detected electronically and recorded photographically.
