Abstract
Measurements on stretch‐oriented polyethylene held at 100°K have been undertaken in an attempt to clearly identify the frequency limit of the calculated stretch—bend acoustic mode. A simplified ``constant‐Q'' scattering technique was used in order to isolate the longitudinal C–C–C motion. A frequency limit was observed at 525±15 cm−1. The persistence of the torsional mode response in the longitudinal experiment is unexpectedly large. Keywords
