Benzodiazepine misuse, as opposed to therapeutic-dose use and dependence, is an emerging research area. Recently, studies have addressed abuse-liability testing, prevalence, and injected misuse, which appears to have a particularly high HIV risk. The problem of misuse is an extensive one internationally and more research is required, including regarding management.
