Gauge-theory predictions for deep-inelastic polarized-electron-nucleon scattering asymmetries

Abstract
Asymmetries between the deep-inelastic scattering of right- and left-handed electrons by nucleons predicted by three distinct models of weak and electromagnetic interactions are compared. We find that even a left-right-symmetric model, for which neutral currents conserve parity in lowest order, predicts sizeable asymmetries as a result of radiative corrections. Asymmetry measurements are contrasted with atomicphysics parity-violation searches and the relevance of our results for an ongoing experiment is discussed.
