The Molecular Structure of Dimethyltrisulfide, (CH3)2S3

Abstract
Dimethyltrisulfide (CH3)2S3 has been investigated by the electron diffraction method. The molecule was found to have the chain configuration, with the following interatomic distances and angles: C–H=1.09A (assumed), C–S=1.78±0.04A, S–S=2.04A, ±0.02A, ∠H–C–S=112° (assumed), ∠S–S–S=104°±5°, and ∠C–S–S=104°±5°. The results also suggest that the C–S bonds oscillate with rather large amplitude about a mean position approximately 106° out of the plane of the three sulfur atoms.
