Flash Photolysis Measurement of the Kinetics of CF2 Reactions

Abstract

The second‐order rate constant k for the combination of CF₂ radicals to tetrafluoroethylene (C₂F₄) has been determined to be $${\text{k=[(1.3)10}}^8{\text{](T/300}}^{\circ }\mathrm{K}{)}^{\frac{1}{2}}\exp \text{(−1.2/RT)\hspace{0.17em}}\mathrm{liters}/\mathrm{mole}·\sec .$$ The reactivity of CF₂ radicals towards olefins and towards oxygen was found to be surprisingly low.
