Abstract
Attempts were made to cross tame Sitka (Black Beveran) does with wild agouti bucks to produce a strain of agoutis which by selection after test matings would breed true. The original cross was difficult to make, and F1 litters were small. A character since described as "wide banding" on the agouti hair was observed. Crossing large with small parentals gave almost exactly intermediate F1s and F2s. Good body condition, quick moulting, and small appetites were conspicuous in the offspring. Docile tame stock crossed to wilds gave all "wild," timid F1s. The F2S and F3s were progressively less timid but docilea never appeared.
