Abstract
Effective methods for training general practitioners how to both detect and manage emotional disorders are described. Videofeedback is the most effective method of training. Recent work suggests that not only do training effects persist but also that training can have an impact on patient outcome. It is now essential that skills training is more widely disseminated in primary care. Appropriate models need to be developed for training GPs in the management of a range of common problems. Keywords
