Abstract
The results are given from an investigation of the frequency of the Gm(r) character in a sample of 493 nonrelated, adult male and female individuals from South Western Germany. The frequency of Gm(r+)-individuals is 43.8%, the frequency of Gm(r-)-individuals is 56.2%; the frequency of the gene Gmr was calculated to .250. The frequencies of Gmr in an Icelandic sample (n = 92) and in an Hungarian one (n r 506), reported in this paper, are .248, respectively .146. The Gm(r)-character could be found only in those individuals which are Gm(a+), too. The comparison between this and other European samples shows a diminution in the frequency of Gmr gene from Northern to Southern Europe.
