Phenylisocyanate Derivatives of Carbohydrates.

Abstract

An investigation was made of a method of locating the acetyl groups in partially acetylated carbohydrates using phenylisocyanate for introducing protective substituents. It was found that the derived phenylcarbamoyl groups sometimes undergo acyl migration but that generally the reagent is suitable for use in the determination of the substituent distribution in partially acetylated l[forward arrow]4-linked xylans and glucans.
