Abstract
Changes comparable to those of physiological aging were induced by X-radiation in the tunica media of elastic arteries of mice of different ages. In the elastic arteries of 20- to 30-day and 80- to 100-day old irradiated mice there were increased amts. of ground substance, increased numbers of interlamellar fibers, and premature ragged-ness and fraying of the elastic membranes. No changes attributable to irradiation were seen in the arteries of the old mice. Keywords
