Abstract
(First of Two Parts)THIS review is warranted by the recent progress in understanding and treating testicular cancer. For example, it has been established that nearly all these cancers originate in the germ cells. Another important advance has been the development of radioimmunoassays for the tumor markers alpha-fetoprotein and chorionic gonadotropin. Operative therapy and new drugs and drug combinations have improved the chances of survival for patients with all but the most advanced stages of the disease.
