Turbulent Modification of them=1Resistive Tearing Instability

Abstract

In the presence of a random spectrum of lower hybrid waves, the $m=1\mathrm{}$ resistive tearing instability becomes an oscillating instability with a significantly enhanced growth rate. For typical tokamak parameters, the growth time can become comparable to plasma disruption times for rather moderate levels of fluctuations.
