Abstract
Nonproliferating suspensions of hemolytic streptococci convert 1 (+)-glutamine to 1 (+)-glutamic acid. Unlike the action of the other glutaminases, this takes place only during glycolysis; but intermediate compounds have not been detected. The rate of glutamine decomposition (1-3 [mu] mol./mg. dry wt./hr.) is of the same order of magnitude as . that at which glutamine or glutamic acid would be assimilated by growing organisms. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
