THE EFFECT OF SUPRARENIN AND THYROXIN ON WATER ABSORPTION BY BRAIN TISSUE

Abstract
The cerebral hemispheres, mid-brain, cerebellum and medulla of a decapitated rabbit were separated and divided into symmetrical halves, one placed in distilled water, the other in an equal amount of the solution to be studied, and weighed at regular intervals. Thyroxin, suprarenin base and suprarenin bitartrate have a specific effect on the swelling of the brain portions. The authors discuss a possible colloid chemical basis of mental disorders.
