Gold(III) complexes with 1,2-disulfanyl-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane. Synthesis and partial degradation reactions of [Au(S2C2B10H10 )2]− salts

Abstract
The reaction of 1,2-disulfanyl-1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane, under basic conditions, with [N(PPh 3 ) 2 ][AuCl 4 ] or [AuCl 3 (tht)]–NBu 4 Br (molar ratio 2∶1) (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) resulted in the formation of the homoleptic gold(III) derivative Q[Au(S 2 C 2 B 10 H 10 ) 2 ] [Q = N(PPh 3 ) 2 or NBu 4 ]. Treatment of this complex with hydrazine or phenylhydrazine partially degraded one or both carborane cages, respectively. The complexes [NBu 4 ][Au(S 2 C 2 B 10 H 10 ) 2 ] and [NBu 4 ] 2 [Au(S 2 C 2 B 9 H 10 )(S 2 C 2 B 10 H 10 )] have been characterized by X-ray diffraction studies.
