Abstract
Elaterase was partially purified from Cucumis myriocarpus and C. leptodermis. The action of this beta-glycosidase was tested on the following 4 glycosides: scilliroside, k-strophanthin-beta, digilanide A and scillaren A. In all cases one molecule of glucose was split off. The rate of the reaction was comparatively rapid for the first 3 substrates, and much slower for the fourth. The course of the reaction was followed by paper chromatographic analysis on aliquots of the reaction mixture. Solvent systems are described by means of which the aglycones can be identified. They were further characterized by their crystalline form, M. P. and color reactions. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
