Abstract
We discuss rational approximations to a single irrational number and pairs of mutually irrational irrational numbers and show that the binary ‘‘Farey’’ tree organization of the rationals extends naturally to a binary organization of pairs of rationals with a common denominator. There are obvious applications to theory and experiments in dynamical systems. Keywords
