Abstract
Thirty patients suffering from symptoms of the female climacteric were admitted to an open clinical trial. Twenty-seven completed eight weeks treatment with opipramol. A better response was obtained after eight weeks than after four weeks. Twenty-six of the twenty-seven patients were found moderately or much improved at the end of the trial. Better results were obtained in mild cases than in severe cases as assessed by the rating scale and in those patients who had ceased to menstruate. Of the target symptoms assessed vasomotor disturbances showed the best response, hot flushes being improved by 86% and sweating by 80% after eight weeks treatment.
