Abstract
Erosion features and terrace deposits of the River Severn and Bristol Channel, England, taken together with local and other carbon-14 dates, suggest that from about 24,000 to 45,000 years ago the sea was not more than a few meters above or below its present level. Levels deduced from carbon-14 dates of submerged beach deposits in the Gulf of Mexico, indicating sea level a few meters below the present one for the later part of the period mentioned, are confirmed.
