Manx Shearwaters in the Bay of Biscay

Abstract

Prior to forming the egg, female Manx shearwaters [Puffinus puffinus] from south Irish Sea colonies spend a fortnight or so exploiting the rich sardine fishery in the Bay of Biscay; the males remain behind, in nightly occupation of the burrows.
