Abstract
The method of Krober which involves distillation of the material with 12% HC1 and precipitation of the furfuraldehyde in the distillate with phloroglucinol requires the most rigid standardization. Such a standardized method is descr. and the relationship between phloroglucide and furfuraldehyde, arabinose, xylose, galacturonic and glycuronic acids detd. The results are treated mathematically, equations indicating the relationships being deduced, and the standard errors of exp. detd. The effect of hexoses in binary and ternary mixtures of the above constituents is also detd. and applications of the results to the analysis of pectin and hemicelluloses are indicated. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
