Abstract
Photoelectron emission studies indicate that the upper valence band in MoTe2 and NbSe2 is formed from the transition metal non-bonding dz2 orbital, in accordance with recent theory. Comparison of work function and photothreshold for MoTe2 leads to a band gap of the order of 1 eV.Keywords
