Abstract
Making use of an ansatz wave function for the ground state of two-dimensional electrons, which occupy only partially the lowest Landau level, we study theoretically the correlation energy, the shear modulus, and collective modes. We find that the electron lattice is locally stable for , while the hole lattice is locally stable for , where is the filling factor. The melting temperature estimated from the shear modulus exhibits broad peaks around .
