Über das Verhalten von Hämatoporphyrin im Tierkörper.

Abstract
Hausmann found that mice injected subcut. with hema-toporphyrin were very sensitive to light and according to the dose given would die in a few min. to days. He could find no active form of hematoporphyrin in their blood. The authors undertook an investigation of this phenomenon, after per os administration and intramusc. injection. Examinations of feces, urine, blood, etc. were made with the following results: When given by mouth there was always an increase in wt. of the animal and no photodynamic effect. Intramusc. small and medium doses were followed by increase in wt., larger doses a loss of wt. After small doses either per os or intramusc, hematoporphyrin was found in the feces. Hematic acid could not be found in the feces after per os administration and is doubtful after intramusc. injection. The urine contains no hematoporphyrin after per os feeding, while it does so after intramusc. injection. The same is true of the blood. The excretion of hematoporphyrin given intramusc. is quite different than when given by mouth, but in both cases it is nearly quantitative.
