Emotional Albuminuria in Combat

Abstract
A total of 14,611 urine specimens was collected from 388 crew members of 4 different combat squadrons over a period of 20 days. Specimens were obtained under standard conditions at meal times before and after combat missions. Albumin secretion was detd. by the boiling-acetic acid test. Heated and unheated turbidities were compared in a strong illumination box against a black, non-reflecting background. Turbidities were quantified on a 4-point scale. Inter-individual differences were large but intra-individual patterns of albuminaria were consistent from day to day. Comparison with officer ratings of the crew members and with observations of the men yielded consistent relationships indicating the dependence of albuminaria patterns on emotional patterns within the individual.
