ZINC RETENTION BY SOILS

Abstract
It was shown that apple seedlings make decreased growth in the presence of high soil-Zn concentrations. Application of Zn salts to the soil result in very high Zn concentrations. In some soils the concentration of Zn in the soil resulting from an application of ZnSO4 plus K2SO4 in the ratio of chemical equivalents of Zn per K of 1/3 would be of the order of magnitude of 10% of the exchange capacity. An application of this mixture of chemicals should constitute a firm basis for further experimentation to find a practical field treatment for supplying Zn to fruit trees.
