Abstract
The author has studied the therapeutic activity of 2-sulfonamide-3-methoxypyrazine (SMPz-Kelfizina), a long-acting sulfonamide, in 27 cases of acute malaria due to P. falciparum. Treatment with 1. 5-2. 5 gms of the compound administered weekly caused the disappearance of fever and clinical symptoms. In all cases the asexual forms of the parasites completely disappeared from the peripheral blood within 72 hours from onset of the treatment. No relapses appeared in patients for long periods.
