MAGNESIUM METABOLISM IN HYPERPARATHYROIDISM

Abstract
In clinical and experimental hyperparathyroidism there was a negative Mg balance. Individuals reverting from this state to normal or the hypoparathyroid state stored Mg. Variations in Mg balance always accompanied similar changes in Ca and P metabolism. There was little evidence indicating the parathyroid glands have any direct effect on the level of Mg in the blood. The influence of the parathyroid hormone on Mg metabolism seemed secondary to its action on Ca or P.
