Abstract
The old problem of ionic recombination in a high density ambient gas is examined anew. Taking both electrostatic attraction and diffusion effects fully into account and avoiding any arbitrary auxiliary assumptions, Langevin's original formula (1903) (which has for long seemed to depend on the improper neglect of diffusion) is regained and the reason for this being possible is explained. Keywords
