Abstract
Melioidosis occurs in animals in North Queensland, and appears to be mainly a veterinary problem. Details are given of 5 fatal cases in humans and of 1 case in a patient who may have recovered, all proven by isolation of the organism, and all occurring in the Townsville-Charters Towers-Ingham area. The incidence of human infection is unknown, because no serological procedure has yet been tried on a large scale. Keywords
