Photoacoustic study of diffuse light scattering from a diffraction grating

Abstract
A photoacoustic technique was used to evaluate total diffuse light scattering from a diffraction grating as functions of incidence angle and polarization of 632.8-nm photons. Diffuse light scattering for a 520-line/mm silver-coated replica grating was found to decrease with increasing angle of incidence and to exhibit no strong dependence on polarization of the incident photons, except in the angular regions where surface plasmons were excited.
