The addition of Aegilops variabilis chromosomes to Triticum aestivum and their identification

Abstract
Nine of the 14 possible single chromosome addition lines of the tetraploid species A. variabilis Eig. (CuCuSvSv) to T. aestivum L. cv. Chinese Spring (AA BB DD) were isolated and identified. The 9 A. variabilis addition lines were compared with the available addition lines of A. umbellulata (CuCu) and A. longissima (Svsv) to further elucidate the relationshp between these 2 diploids and the tetraploid A. variabilis. Differences were observed between the same chromosomes isolated from the diploid and the tetraploid and discussed. After taking into account banding pattern polymorphisms, A. umbellulata was confirmed as the donor of the Cu genome, and evidence indicated that A. longissima probably is the donor of the other genome (Sv) in the tetraploid A. variabilis.
