A Cell Wall Stain Employing a Cationic Surface-active Agent as a Mordant

Abstract
A new stain is reported in which the cell wall is positively charged by the treatment with cetyl pyridium chloride and then stained with an acid dye, Congo red. The cytoplasm is stained with a contrasting basic dye, methylene blue.
