CHROMOSOME PAIRING IN HAPLOIDS OFBRASSICA OLERACEA

Abstract
Analysis of chromosome pairing in microspore-derived haploids of broccoli, B. oleracea L. var. italica (2n = 18) cv. Bravo and Green Mountain, revealed a maximum chromosome pairing at MI of 4 I + 1 II + 1 III. These data disagree with the hypothesis that diploid B. oleracea is tetrasomic for 3 linkage groups but indicate that it could be tetrasomic for one and hexasomic for another. The aneuploid series in Brassica could also be derived from a combination of modified tertiary and compensating trisomics.
