Chlorpromazine in Chronic Schizophrenic Women: Rate of Onset and Rate of Dissipation of Drug Effects

Abstract

Data from a study of the effects of chlorpromazine on chronic schizophrenic women were further extended and analyzed for information on the onset and dissipation of statistically significant chlorpromazine effects. Measures of psychological-test performance and behavior-scale ratings were used as response criteria. Prolonged lags in both the appearance and disappearance of significant drug effects were measurable in months rather than days. Implications regarding experimental design and drug metabolism are emphasized.
