The "Dual Phenomenon" and Trichophyton mentagrophytes

Abstract
Highly mycelial and intermediate variants were isolated as single spore cultures from a single spore culture of a conidial race of T. mentagrophvtes. Single spore cultures (65-218) were made from the original conidial form and from the 9 variants. In each instance the resulting cultures resembled the parent from which they came. The authors conclude that the dual phenomenon followed by heterocaryosis and separation of nuclei is not adequate to explain the variants which develop from a race of T. mentagrophytes.
