Abstract
Self-sterile petunias were made self-fertile by spraying the flowering plants with a soln. of 10 pts. of a-naphthalene acetamide dissolved in one million parts of water. The a-naphthalene acetamide neutralizes the effect of an ovarian secretion which diffuses into the style and inhibits the growth of the pollen tubes.
